Primary 6

Primary 6 So Far....

During this half term, the children have participated in a series of activities focused on Viking Culture, integrating STEM, history and art.

Pupils were introduced to the basic design and structure of the Viking longboat learning about key features like the keel, oars, hull and sails. They sketched their own designs focusing on balance and stability and used tin foil to replicate the authentic Viking boat shape. We then tested our boats in water to see how well they floated and how many marbles they were able to hold.

Alongside the hands-on boat project we researched different aspects of Viking life and created PowerPoint presentations to share their findings with the class. These included images and key facts about Viking culture helping to develop their digital literacy and public speaking skills. We also had a lot of fun creating Viking longboat collage for our art this half term.

P6 Displays are up!

The children in both Primary 6 classes have been hard at work for over a month now. So far, their work has been very impresive, both teachers are delighted with the effort from all of the children. This super effort can be seen in the P6 displays both within the classrooms and the Resource Area! Well done to our P6 Children.

P6 Viking Longships

Within the World Around Us topic of "The Vikings" both P6 classes have been designing Viking Longships. The children used paint, sponges and salt to make each longship look unique. All are up for display in the Resource Area, dont they look beautiful? Thank you to Mrs Boyce (P2) the children's afternoon Art teacher, who undertook this work with our P6 classes.

P6 Visit to Navan Fort

Both Primary 6 classes visited Navan Fort on Friday 18th November for their Viking Day. The children heard all about how the Vikings travelled, built long ships and lived in Long Houses. The book of Armagh was re-created by the children who had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Thank you to all at Navan Fort. Please see photos below.

P6 Vikings plunder Waringstown Primary School

Disaster struck Waringstown Primary School on 10th December 2021. Viking Longships were spotted in Belfast Harbour and within hours the savages had entered the churches in Waringstown. Needing slaves, the Vikings went on to pillage Waringstown Primary School...much to the shock of Mr McCambley!! A battle ensued but both Mr McCambley and Mr Gault were no match for the savages from Scandinavia! Within minutes however, the staff joined forces and ably led by the skilful Mr Brown and his general Mr Mitchell, a battle took place which finally defeated the Norsemen at the historic site - the MUGA! This battle, now know as "The Battle of the MUGA" will be told for generations to come. After their defeat, the Vikings scampered back to their longships and left without gold, silver or any slaves. History will tell how the battle altered the course of the Viking onslaught on the British Isles! Please click Read More to view all today's photos.
