Primaire 5 Profitez des cours de français de Madame Cassells

Primary 5 recently enjoyed their series of French lessons taught by Madame Cassells.  They enjoyed learning many French phrases and have gained a good knowledge of the country of France and its culture.  The children even managed to experience some French cuisine!!  A huge thank you to Madame Cassells for teaching the children.  Take a look through our gallery to see how we got on:

Primary 5 Investigate Penguin Blubber

Primary 5 had great fun completing an investigation on their topic of Penguins.  The investigation was to find out if a Penguin needs Blubber to survive in Antarctica temperatures.

Together they carried out an investigation to identify whether Penguin Blubber actually insulates a Penguin in cold climates.  Each child got to place their hand into an ice cold bowl of water and then again into a glove insulated with Blubber (lard).  The children compared the results of each and concluded that the Penguin's Blubber is definitely a much needed insulation in the cold climate of the Antarctica!  Take a look through our photo gallery to see how we got on:

Primary 5 Pupils Enjoy Computer Club

As the Computer Club continues Primary 5 boys and girls are developing their skills in Apps such as Scratch, ChatterKid, Minecraft and PicEDU.  The children were recently working on Minecraft to create their own Polar Lands and then importing their world into PicEDU and adding characters to create a Penguin scene.   Lots of interesting Polar Land scenes were created!  Take a look through our gallery to see how the pupils got on:

Primary 5 Celebrate Their Half Marathon Achievement

Primary 5 pupils completed their Half Marathon of 13.1 miles on what turned out to be a very pleasant Friday afternoon.  A total of 40 Primary 5 children crossed the finishing line to achieve their Half Marathon Medal.  All other Primary 5 children supported their peers by marshalling the route and encouraging the runners on their way round.   Well done to all!

The celebration mile allowed parents, grandparents and other spectators to join in and support the runners.  Mrs Geddis, one of our Board of Governors (and parent) presented each runner with a medal and certificate. Each child also received a pack kindly sponsored by Tesco, Craigavon and Intersport, Rushmere Shopping Centre.  A huge thank you also goes to Intersport for sponsoring vouchers for 3 very fortunate runners! All names were placed into a hat and a draw was made after the Certificate ceremony!

Mrs Williamson and Miss McAnearney enjoyed leading the Half Marathon Club this term and have been delighted with the children's enthusiasm throughout the 7 week programme and would like to congratulate each child on their Half Marathon achievement.  Take a look through the gallery below, thank you to Mrs Peacocke for being our photographer:

Fire Service NI Visit Primary 5

Primary 5 were recently visited by the Northern Ireland Fire Service. The children were given a brief safety talk by the officers in class and were then taken outside to view the Fire Engine.  The children were shown a variety of objects which are needed when the Fire Service are required to visit a fire or accident! The children really enjoyed and benefited greatly from this very worthwhile and educational annual visit. A special thank you was said to the Lurgan Branch of NI Fire Service who were fantastic in relaying their safety message.

Primary 5 Enjoy A Visit To The Ulster Museum

Primary 5 thoroughly enjoyed a recent visit to the Ulster Museum in connection with their World Around Us topic of The Egyptians.  The children enjoyed time in the Learning Zone led by a qualified Archaeologist, here they were able to identify and handle various artefacts from Egyptian times before heading up to Zone 2 in search of the famous Mummy Takabuti!  Click on the link below to learn more about what the children experienced through the visit: http://www.nmni.com/um/Collections/World-Cultures/The-Ancient-World/Ancient-Egypt.

During our visit to the Museum Primary 5 got an expected treat! The Dippy the Dinosaur Tour is currently visiting the Ulster Museum so we were very fortunate to get a convenient time slot to visit this very interesting exhibition.  As part of a road trip across the UK, Dippy has ventured out of London for the first time since 1905.  He is visiting the Museum from 28 September 2018 until 06 January 2019.  Primary 5 found the full 292-bone skeleton in its displayed pose very impressive.  He is 21.3 metres long, 4.3 metres wide and 4.25 metres high. We found great difficulty in getting the whole skeleton fitted into a picture!
