On Tuesday 9th February we will be joining schools and youth organisations remotely across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day 2021. Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of technology, which calls on young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and more to join together in helping to create a better internet.

Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote in school and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasize the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year.

We would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home. To help you with this, you may be interested in downloading the free Safer Internet Day Education Pack for Parents and Carers which is available at: saferinternet.org.uk/sid-parents.

Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 11 February 2020

Tuesday 11 February 2020 is Safer Internet Day, a day that is very important to our school and pupils. Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the Insafe Network and is celebrated every year across Europe, and in other countries worldwide. In the UK, Safer Internet Day is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre (www.saferinternetday.org.uk), and this year’s theme is “Together for a better internet.”

We believe that internet safety education is a crucial element of the curriculum and an essential part of young people’s development.  In school we will be reminding the children of the importance of online safety and the many positives and also negatives while using the internet.

Safer Internet Day is designed to help you become more aware of the safety messages that your children receive in school in order to reinforce them in your home environment. Please find below the link to find out more about what is happening in the UK on Safer Internet Day at https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2020

The ICT Team

Digital Leaders Announced In Assembly

Following the application process for Digital Leaders, the DL Teachers had over 50 applications to work through. The successful 14 Digital Leaders from Primary 5, 6 and 7 were presented with their Digital Leaders Badge in Assembly.

The Digital Leaders Team will be responsible for problem solving with iPads, working with teachers to help them with lessons and helping fellow pupils to use the ipads.  It is a big responsibility and we know they will be great at the job. The teachers are very much looking forward to having them help with iPad lessons in school.

Congratulations to all the Digital Leaders!

Internet Safety Awareness

In Waringstown Primary School we take the safety of our children very seriously, that also includes their safety on the Internet.

Children are becoming increasingly computer literate so it is essential that parents/carers are fully aware of the pros and cons of their child using the Internet. As we continue our new School year and Term, would you please ensure you talk to your child about the SMART rules for the use of the Internet and general E-Safety within school and home.

Visit the Our Policy Link to view the E-Safety Policy.

Below you will find links to websites which offer advice to help ensure that children stay safe while online and will also help to reinforce the SMART rules:
