Hockey Season Celebrations!

Girls who attended hockey in P5, P6 and P7 this year have shown great commitment and it has paid off with the team winning the Mid Ulster Primary School League.  For our last day of hockey, the girls had a party to celebrate the success of this season! They enjoyed party food (lots of it!!) along with some singing and dancing.  A great afternoon was had by all!  To end the celebration event Mrs McEhinney and Mrs Boyce presented the team with a lovely framed photo so the girls will always have something special to remember their time playing for Waringstown Primary School.

The teachers would like to say a BIG thank you to all the girls who have attended hockey practice this year and want to wish the P7 girls every success as they move on to their new school.

Northern Ireland Hockey Finals

On Wednesday 18 April the hockey team travelled to Stormont for the NI Hockey Finals.

The girls played superbly as a team, winning their first two matches easily with results of 5-0 and 6-0 respectively.  Their next match was against a tough team from Friends.  The girls fought hard and came away with a win of 3-0.

They played Towerhill and Victoria to complete the section, winning 2-0 in both matches.  These final results placed them top of their table and automatically through to the Cup Section.  To qualify to the Semi Final the girls had to play Maine and Bush Primary.  Again a superb effort was given by all, winning both matches 2-0.

It was a nerve wrecking Semi Final as the girls were up against a very strong team from Armstrong.  Although we scored an early goal against Armstrong, they then came back with an equaliser.  The match remained tense until the very last minute when Armstrong managed a second goal!  Armstrong automatically qualified to the final and eventually won the Cup.  The overall standard of Hockey from the girls was outstanding, they could not have given any more in terms of effort and were a credit to Waringstown Primary School.

Hockey League Tournament Success

The ‘A Team’ and ‘B Team’ recently headed to Banbridge High School to play in the League Tournament.

The A Team’s first match was against Cookstown and they had a convincing 6-0 win. Their next match was against Edenderry Banbridge, it was a tough match with both sides playing exceptional hockey. After a hard fought battle the final score was 1-1. There were more matches to be played against Abercorn and Dromore . The team played with grit and determination, ending up with another win and a draw.  This meant the team finished top of their table with Edenderry, which meant they had qualified into the ‘Super League’ group. An amazing achievement.

The B Team had two great matches against Dromore and Edenderry. They played brilliantly as a team, considering this was their first League Tournament.

Congratulations to all the girls who played in both teams.  Take a look through our gallery to see how the girls got on:
