Primary 5 Girls Enjoy Their Last Day Of Hockey

Primary 5 Girls enjoyed a tournament today, on their final P5 Hockey practice.  The girls all took part in the tournament and were treated afterwards by Mrs Williamson and Mrs Peacocke.  The girls have really enjoyed Hockey as their after school activity and Mrs Peacocke and Mrs Williamson are really pleased with the progress and skills the girls have gained throughout the year.   We really do hope each girl keeps their interest in Hockey up and joins in with the P6/7 Hockey next year.

Waringstown Hockey Team Compete In The Northern Ireland Hockey Finals

On 2nd April Our School Hockey team went to Lisnagarvey to compete in the Northern Ireland Hockey Finals.

The girls had to play a total of  5 matches in the first round of the tournament.  They drew 1-1 with Strandtown and it was a scoreless draw with Dromore.  They upped their game and beat Millington 2-0, next they beat Killinchy 7-0, finally going on to beat Pond Park 3-0.

Due to finishing second in their section they qualified for the cup.  After lunch they were given a new section in which they had to play Magheralin and The Spires.  Waringstown drew 0-0 with Magheralin but beat The Spires 4-0.  Magheralin could only manage a 2-0 victory over The Spires which meant Waringstown were through to the semi-finals.

Victoria were our opponents.  It was a closely fought match which ended up 1-1 after full time.  The match went on to ‘Golden Goal’ and unfortunately Victoria managed to score first.

The girls were champions in our eyes because they gave their all in every match.  Mrs McCollum and Mrs McElhinney were very proud of them all.

In the final we played Magheralin and beat them 1-0.  Waringstown have now held the title of Mid Ulster Champions for 2 years in a row.
