Mid Ulster Hockey tournament

The girls’ hockey team headed to Edenvilla to play in the Mid Ulster tournament. The team met Cookstown in their first match and had a comprehensive victory beating their team 4-0.

Their next match was against a very strong Armstrong team and they managed to keep it to a scoreless draw.

Their final match was against Hardy and the girls pulled out all the stops beating Hardy 3-0.

Although finishing top of our section with Armstrong they managed to score more goals and went through to the next round. The girls played brilliantly and will have been given great confidence for their future league matches.

Super League Hockey Tournament

The ‘A team‘ recently headed to Dromore to play in their final tournament.

The girls were up against the league winners from all of the other sections which meant it was going to be a tough test from the start.  Their first match was against their old rivals Maralin. As was expected, it was an evenly fought match, the result being a scoreless draw.  Armstrong were next and the girls had a comfortable 4-0 win.

The following match against Dromore was tough, Waringstown were winning until the last 30 seconds when the opposition scored, making it 1-1 on the final whistle.  Waringstown continued in good form beating Edenderry 3-0. They finally played Kingspark with a win of 1-0.  Although unbeaten, the team finished second due to goal difference.

This has been an AMAZING year for the girls. Captained by Katie Sandford, vice captained by Abbie Hampton, Lily –May Hall, Lucy Lyttle, Lottie Williamson, Joy-Ann Savage, Jodie Savage and Ellen Wilson.  The girls have all been excellent ambassadors for the school.

Congratulations to their well deserved success.

B Team Hockey Tournament - April 2016

It was a beautiful sunny day when The ‘B Team‘ headed for Brownlow to play their hockey tournament.

The girls had four matches against Bocombra, Millington, Edenderry and Kingspark. Despite the hot weather the girls played fantastically well beating all four teams quite convincingly.

Congratulations to all who took part.

Northern Ireland Hockey Finals

On Thursday the girls’ hockey team headed to Lisnagarvey to play in the Northern Ireland Hockey Finals.  The girls were in a tough section with other Primary Schools such as Friends Prep, Antrim, Penrhyn, St. Brigid’s and Dromore.  The matches were ten minutes each, making it essential that goals came early.

Their first match against Antrim ended in victory when Jodie Savage scored just before the whistle. The next three matches were extremely close and ended all in a draw. Katie Sandford scored in the match against Penrhyn.  In the final match of our section Waringstown comfortably beat Dromore 2-0 with Abbie Hampton scoring both goals.  The results meant that Waringstown went into the cup round with the winning teams of the other sections.

These proved a tough few games, as only the top three teams in each section got through.  The girls played DH Christie and unfortunately weren’t able to capitalize on some great opportunities to score. The match ended 0-0.  Waringstown met Downshire Primary, in what was to be their final match.  The girls played magnificently but were beaten by a very tough team.

Friends Prep went on to win the tournament and the girls can take comfort in that they drew with this team earlier on in the tournament.  Teachers, pupils and parents all had a wonderful day. The girls made us very proud to be part of the Waringstown Primary School Team.

March Hockey News

The girls’ hockey team have had a busy few weeks playing league matches and tournaments.

The 'A Team' finished top of their league table beating Bocombra, Maralin, Seagoe and Markethill. This success puts them through to the ‘Super League’ tournament which will be played in April.

The team competed in two tournaments in recent weeks. The first tournament was in Cookstown for the Mid Ulster Cup. The team had to play in a tough section, being narrowing beaten by Maralin, who went on to win the cup.

Their next tournament was to qualify the team to play in the Northern Ireland finals. The girls, to everyone’s delight, comfortably won their section which put them through to this prestigious tournament.

The ‘B Team’ had an equally successful run of matches.  They played Seagoe, Markethill and Maralin. The girls won one match against Seagoe and drew with both Markethill and Maralin.

Fantastic results all round.
